Burner compartment inspection
The burner area contains gas components and ignition hardware; soot, corrosion or abnormal flame appearance need trained evaluation.
What to observe
A homeowner can record visible discoloration from outside the closed appliance and note any unusual smell or shutdown.
A field example
Soot-like marking in a burner chamber should remain visible for the gas technician to assess. Do not erase the evidence with a brush before combustion and venting are checked.
What the written work should say
Ask a TSSA-registered contractor to document inspection findings and the specific cleaning or repair performed.
Where this task stops
Do not open, brush or adjust gas train components as a household cleaning task.
