Furnace cabinet cleaning
The sheet-metal enclosure surrounds the blower, burner compartment and controls; dust on the exterior differs from debris inside an active compartment.
What to observe
Photograph the cabinet floor, service panels and penetrations before work; note rust or moisture separately from ordinary settled dust.
A field example
A dark patch on the cabinet floor beneath a condensate line deserves a water-source check before anyone wipes it away. Ordinary dust along the dry base and fresh water staining are different findings with different next steps.
What the written work should say
Ask which compartments will be opened, what will be protected, and whether the technician will leave access panels seated and the unit operating normally.
Where this task stops
A cabinet wipe is not a burner inspection, gas safety check or full duct cleaning.
